Gold Coast Glows During Friday Night Racing
Gold Coast will glow on Friday October 21 when the Lexmark Indy 300 embarks on a bigger, brighter and bolder Friday Night Racing and ‘Triple M OnTrack Entertainment’ program.
After a successful introduction last year, Friday Night Racing will continue in 2005 with two great races set to showcase the amazing skill and concentration of drivers at night around the tight 4.47km Surfers Paradise street circuit.
The Wright Patton Shakespeare Carrera Cup featuring an all-Porsche field of 911 GT3 Cup cars and the Haymans Electrical V8 Utes with a strong cast of Ford and Holden V8 production-based Utes will take centre stage.
The cars in both 20-minute races will negotiate the tight and testing circuit with their lights on and the illuminated Surfers Paradise and Main Beach highrise skyline providing a magnificent backdrop.
This year Friday Night Racing at the Lexmark Indy 300 will start at 6pm on Friday October 21 and conclude by 8.30pm.
In a coup for Lexmark Indy 300 fans, a special $15 Friday Night Racing ticket has been launched and will be on sale from 5pm that afternoon at the Ticketek booths at the Main Gates. All Four Day, Weekend GA and Friday GA ticket holders can also enter the circuit to watch the Friday Night Racing.
To complement the illuminated racing action, a bright and bold ‘Triple M OnTrack Entertainment’ program has been organised.
The ‘Triple M OnTrack Entertainment’ will feature a ‘Rolling Thunder’ parade of more than 200 Harley Davidsons presented by Morgan and Wacker, international drag racing stars Victor Bray, Ben Bray and Brett Stevens performing burnout demonstrations, the track lighting up with Raceline Night Drifting and the Gold Coast skies turning gold with a RAAF F1-11 dump’n burn as part of the Sea FM Air Show.
Lexmark Indy 300 General Manager James O’Brien said the Friday Night Racing feature adds another spectacular entertainment option for fans over the four days.
“The response last year when we staged our inaugural Friday Night Racing program was encouraging, and the imagery of the cars racing around an illuminated Surfers Paradise street circuit was spectacular,” said O’Brien.
“We have developed the program even more from last year with the Haymans Electrical V8 Utes joining the Wright Patton Shakespeare Carrera Cup in the racing action.
“On top of that, the Triple M OnTrack Entertainment will be worth the price of admission in itself in what promises to be a bright, colourful and electric exhibition of Harley Davidsons, Drift Cars, Burn Outs and then the ever-popular F1-11 dump’n burn to excite the fans.”
The Wright Patton Shakespeare Carrera Cup is one of the support categories at this year’s Lexmark Indy 300, and is regarded as the fastest and most successful ‘one make’ championship in the world.
That ‘one make’ is Porsche with more than 20 identically-built 911 GT3 Cup cars set for the Friday Night Racing at the Lexmark Indy 300.
The Lexmark Indy 300 will be round eight of the nine-round Wright Patton Shakespeare Carrera Cup championship in 2005. Currently motor racing legend Jim Richards leads the championship from young guns Fabian Coulthard and Luke Youlden.
The Haymans Electrical V8 Utes add to the support program at the Lexmark Indy 300 in 2005. Often regarded as the World Championship Wrestlers of motorsport, the V8 Utes provide great entertainment and familiar names such as James Brock, James Moffatt, Allan Grice and Jack Elsegood to ignite interest.
The Gold Coast round will be round seven of its eight-round national series. Currently Damien ‘Ice Man’ White heads the series standings from Marcus ‘Mayhem’ Zukanovic and Ryal ‘The Kid’ Harris.
The 2005 Lexmark Indy 300 on the Gold Coast will be held from October 20 to 23. Tickets for the Lexmark Indy 300 are now on sale through Ticketek on phone 1300 303 103, via www.ticketek.com.au or at any Ticketek agency.
