The Yokohama V8 Ute Series has lived up to its reputation for plenty of crowd pleasing action after two races at the Clipsal 500 in Adelaide
today.
A dramatic roll over on the hairpin of this afternoon's race left Ryal Harris in the Holden SS on his head, and out for the rest of the
weekend.
Harris walked away unscathed but remained in the paddock this afternoon
with an icepack on his shoulder and on his ego.
"We have had nothing but problems all week and when I was warming up I
knew something was wrong" said Harris.
The #48 Ute suffered severe understeer into Turn 9 climbed the ripple strips and ended up on its roof, forcing a 3 lap safety car period.
Perth drivers Kerry Wade and Grant Johnson both broke the lap record in Race 1 which featured a 4 way battle for the lead. Jack Elsegood in the Coopers Pale Ale new Ford BF led for most of the race, but made a mistake under pressure from Johnson coming into the hairpin that leads onto the main straight. Johnson, Wade and Damien White all slipped
through giving Johnston his first ute win.
Matt O'Grady had the drive of the race starting last after breaking an axle in qualifying, and finishing 9th, giving new supporters Heat Cool
Works great value.
O'Grady's luck ran out in Race 2 when he turned pole sitter Kim Jane
around at the turn one chicane in the reverse grid event.
Marcus Zukanovic delivered a strong result in the Simonds Home Ford taking the win from Holdens James Brock, and Team IMB driver Damien
White.
The final grid up for tomorrows 10:35am final will see the Grove Fruit Juice machine on pole with Grant Johnson at the wheel, Marcus Zukanovic second in #71 and James Brock in the Armour All Holden in the top three.
