Porsche Carrera Cup Reynolds Breaks Davo's Streak To Claim Maiden Pole
David Reynolds scored his maiden pole position in the Wright Patton Shakespeare Carrera Cup today during round five of the championship being
held at the Betta Electrical 500 at Sandown in Melbourne.

The 21-year-old Albury-bred racer pulled out a blistering 1:12.1631 lap in the final two minutes of today's qualifying session to end the four round
pole-setting streak of rival Alex Davison.

Reynolds (Bob Jane T-Marts) is currently fourth in the all-Porsche championship and on a charge to finish the season in the top three.

"Things are falling into place now," said Reynolds. "I'm thinking of
qualifying like practice, and that seemed to work here.

"My previous pole position was actually here as well back in 2004 in Formula Ford, the season I won the championship, so it's obviously a circuit I like
and drive well at.

"My aim for the rest of the season is to break into the top three but I think the overall championship is out of reach after a few of the rounds we
have endured."

Davison (Glenfords Tool Centres / DeWalt) was endeavouring to equal Jim Richards' record of six consecutive pole positions in the category but
Reynolds spoiled the record chase in the dying stages.

Davison's time of 1:12.1838 was still good enough to start the Melbourne based 26-year-old from the front row of the grid for tomorrow's race one.

Rookie star David Russell (Boom Logistics / Sherrin Hire) produced his best qualifying effort with the third fastest time of the day, 1:12.2897.

The 24-year-old Queenslander is coming off his second podium result of the season at Oran Park which put him in the equal lead in the Michelin Rookie
of the Year standings.

Championship leader Craig Baird (Team VIP Petfoods) was fourth on the timesheets with a best lap around the 3.16km circuit of 1:12.3250.

Jonathon Webb (Glenfords Tool Centres / Makita) rounded out the top five in qualifying - his fourth consecutive top-five grid position in the Wright
Patton Shakespeare Carrera Cup.

The fastest of the TAG Heuer Carrera Challenge privateer entries was Rodney Jane (Bob Jane T-Marts), who has been buoyed by his win at the previous
round at Oran Park.

Round five of the Wright Patton Shakespeare Carrera Cup at the Betta Electrical 500, Sandown will continue tomorrow with Race 1 tomorrow over 14
laps at 12.25pm and Race 2 over 14 laps at 4.15pm.
