Honda StGeorge Series Battle Set To Continue At Wakefield Park This Sunday
The second round of the Honda St George Motorcycle Series is set down for Goulburn’s Wakefield Park Raceway this Sunday (April 22) in what promises to see a continuation of the closely fought Motorcycling action.
A field of close to 100 riders, both female and male, will battle it out around the 2.2km Wakefield Park circuit this Sunday, and St George Motorcycle club event coordinator Jan Blizzard predicts an action packed Sunday of Motorcycle racing at a grass-roots level.
“If the opening round is any indication back in February, then this Sunday’s second round at Wakefield Park is bound to put on plenty of excitement,” Blizzard enthused.
“The Honda St George Series allows riders of all abilities and motorcycle capacities to compete in a laid-back environment, as having fun is one the main aims.”
Classes set to take on the challenging Eastern Creek Raceway layout are Formula 400cc, Bears (American, European and British makes), Clubsport Lite (road registered bikes), GRO (Girls), Unlimited (750 to 1300 cc), Senior (Up to 700cc 4 cylinder, and up to 750cc 2 and 3 cylinder machines), Lightweight (for 250cc and Single Cylinders up to 1300cc), and a couple of twin 650cc bikes.
Making their debut this Sunday will be the Junior 80 125 and 150cc for riders aged 14 to 16.
Each class will contest three scratch races over a five lap distance and in the afternoon four handicapped races will be held. Due to the varied grades and machine capacities of individual competitors, all racers will start together as per a scratch race with fastest riders placed at the front of the grid.
Handicapping is based on the time recorded by the rider in the initial scratch race which is then added to their finishing time at the conclusion of the handicap race. Therefore, first across the line may not be the actual winner. These handicapping events have provided plenty of spectacular racing in the past, and this Sunday should be no different amongst the 100 plus entrants.
The action on Sunday is scheduled to begin at 9am with qualifying and racing from 10am.
Entry for spectators is $20 for adults with children under 15 years of age admitted free.
