V8 Supercars Pressing The Pedal To The Metal In The Race To Sell Monopoly
V8 Supercar drivers Russell Ingall and Mark Skaife have had some memorable battles on and off the race track, but now the two Australian motorsport stars can sort out their differences on their sport’s own Monopoly board.

Ingall, Skaife and a host of the sport’s past and present champions are racing to raise money to aid seriously ill children across Australia by throwing their support behind the exclusive V8 Supercar Australian Charity Edition of Monopoly.

An initiative of the McGuinness McDermott Foundation and Variety – The children’s charity, the game will be officially launched on August 31 2007 and is being sold exclusively through the Supercheap Auto store network throughout Australia for $79.95.

This is an exclusive release with only 7500 games produced. The games are classed as collector editions and are tipped to sell like hot cakes and the charities hope to raise over $200,000 from the project.

And it doesn’t matter if you are a Holden or Ford fan or have a driver or team allegiance because when you buy one of these games you will be helping sick kids, according to Ingall, the 2005 V8 Supercar champion.

“The concept of the V8 Supercar Monopoly game is one which I am sure will be leapt at by motorsport fans and sports enthusiasts and collectors in general,” said Ingall.

“The fact that seriously ill children are the sole beneficiary from the project makes it unquestionably worthwhile.

“This is another example of how the V8 Supercar fraternity is one of the most charitable sporting groups in the country and I am sure the fans will also prove that by helping sell out the games in record time.

“It is great that I now not only get the chance to beat (Mark) Skaife on the track we can also do battle on the Monopoly board. I would rather take a one Monopoly dollar off him than a real one off anyone else.”

Skaife, a five-time national champion and Bathurst winner, is also tremendously supportive of the V8 Supercar Monopoly initiative.

“The concept has been embraced by many of the sport’s legends and by a mixture of the current crop of drivers,” said Skaife.

“I am sure the traditional backyard barbeque on Bathurst weekend in a month’s time will now involve a game of V8 Supercar Monopoly at some stage of the day.

“(Russell) Ingall has always been a bit a tight with his money, so it will be nice to get a bit off him by beating him on the Monopoly board.”

The full V8 driver list appearing on the board includes Ingall, Skaife, James Courtney, Craig Lowndes, Todd and Rick Kelly, Jason Bargwanna, Greg Murphy, Garth Tander, Shane Price, Jack Perkins, Cameron McConville, Steve Johnson, Will Davison, Mark Winterbottom, Jason Bright, Marcos Ambrose, Larry Perkins, Jim Richards, Dick Johnson, Allan Moffat and the late Peter Brock.

V8 Supercars Australia Brand and Communications Manager Brian Clinton was delighted to see the new V8 Supercar-branded game hit the shelves.

“This unique Monopoly game feature legends of the V8 Supercar racing world and rather than wheel and deal with Mayfair and Park Lane, players have the chance build a V8 racing empire through buying, renting and mortgaging their favourite V8 racing stars,” said Clinton.

“The game is packed with pictures of drivers and icons of the Australian V8 Supercar Championship Series including Russell Ingall, Craig Lowndes, Rick Kelly, Allan Moffatt, Mark Skaife and of course Peter Brock."

"V8 Supercars Australia is delighted to support this game and Variety - the children´s charity and the official charity of V8 Supercars Australia."
