Defending champion Layton Crambrook has made his intentions clear heading into this year’s Yokohama V8 Ute Series and that is to claim back-to-back crowns and nothing less.
After taking out last year’s Yokohama V8 Ute Series title, that resulted in him finishing six of the eight rounds on the podium including three round victories, Crambrook has re-signed Energy Drink Mother for the year ahead and also signed his newest marketing partner, Nestle’ Maxibon to aid his bid for a successful series defence.
“Mother has signed on for yet another year and we would like to also welcome onboard Maxibon as our newest marketing partner,” Crambrook said. “Without the support of both Mother and Maxibon I simply wouldn’t be able to defend my Yokohama V8 Ute Series title and this has certainly given me added confidence for the year ahead knowing that I have their support.”
Confidence is something Crambrook is loaded with heading into the 2009 Yokohama V8 Ute Series which starts with this weekend’s opening round at the Clipsal 500 on the streets of Adelaide in the heart of South Australia.
“I cannot wait for the series to get underway and now with this year’s testing regulations I haven’t been able to do any testing, so that will give no one an advantage over one another,” Crambrook mentioned. “The Clipsal 500 is a fantastic event and I absolutely love street circuits and I am very confident of starting the year off on the right foot. As usual I will have the likes of Grant Johnson, Jack Elsegood and co looking to wrestle the series title from my grasp.”
This year’s Yokohama V8 Ute Series is set to visit two new circuits, both street courses, with the Townsville (Townsville, QLD) in July and Homebush (Sydney, NSW) in December joining the calendar for the first time and it is something the driver of the # 1 Mother / Maxibon supported BF XR8 Ford Falcon is very much looking forward to.
“Townsville and Homebush rounds promise to be spectacular and it’s going to be wonderful to be part of these history making events,” Crambrook said. “Street circuits are becoming more and more frequent with the V8 Ute Series and I am a big fan of them and hopefully I can turn that into my advantage throughout the year.”
Crambrook is also excited about returning to Hidden Valley Raceway (Darwin, NT) in June and Mount Panorama (Bathurst, NSW) in October and it is where he took out round victories at both circuits last year.
“Hidden Valley is my home circuit and I cannot wait to get back there, as the support I receive there is simply awesome and with Mount Panorama, it is a circuit like no other and I regard it as one of my favourites,” added Crambrook.
Apart from defending his Yokohama V8 Ute Series crown this year, another goal of Crambrook’s is to return to V8 Supercars in some capacity.
“I make no secret about wanting to return to V8 Supercars and all I can do is drive the best I can and see what happens,” he said. “It would be great to secure an Enduro drive in the main game but most of them are already filled. Also I might be able to get a few runs this year in a round or two of the Fujitsu V8 Supercar Development Series.”
The opening round of the Yokohama V8 Ute Series starts on Thursday with practice, followed by qualifying and race one on Friday, race two on Saturday and the third and final race on Sunday.
