Gulf Western Oil is delighted to announce that they will be supporting Matthew White Racing (MWR) team driver Jonathon Webb for his 2009 Fujitsu V8 Supercar Development Series campaign.
After finishing the past two Fujitsu V8 Supercar Developments Series in fourth and third place respectively in the overall point standings, the 25-year-old is looking to capture the 2009 title and nothing less.
Aided with joining the experienced MWR team and the support of Gulf Western Oil, Webb feels that despite the late signing that it will not hamper his chances of contending for this year’s Fujitsu V8 Supercar Development Series.
“Since the end of last year I had been chasing a deal to run in the main series but when that all fell through a few of weeks ago, I was left without a drive for this year and that is when the deal between Matthew White [MWR team owner] and myself came about,” explained the BF Ford Falcon driver. “The goal for me is to win this year’s Fujitsu V8 Supercar Development Series and that is the same idea of the MWR team too. I feel quietly confident that the team and I will gel quickly and we can then start posting some strong results. The MWR team are one of the most experienced teams at this level and coupled with my past two years of top five results then we are looking a strong chance of contending for this year’s series.”
MWR team owner Matthew White is very excited about the year ahead with Webb signing on for the whole year and re-uniting with the Gulf Western Oil brand. Gulf Western Oil sponsored the MWR team for the entire 2004 season.
“It’s great to have Gulf Western Oil back with the team and I am very much looking forward to the year ahead,” enthused White. “With the signing of Jonathon [Webb] we are genuine contenders for this year’s series. Jonathon is a very talented driver and quite experienced for his age. Both Jonathon and MWR have their sights set on success and hopefully our objectives can translate into results out on the race track.”
The opening round of the 2009 Fujitsu V8 Supercar Development Series is set down for the streets of Adelaide in South Australia as part of the Clipsal 500 this weekend. Starting with two practice sessions on Thursday (March 19), followed by two qualifying sessions and race one (24 laps) on Friday (March 20) and then race two (24 laps) on Saturday (March 21).
