Local Lines Up For A Battle Of Both ‘mental And Physical’ Toughness
Enduro is regarded by many as a battle of both ‘Mental and Physical’ toughness and when Jason Pearce takes on the third and fourth round of the NSW Senior Pony Express Series at Denman in the Hunter Valley this weekend (May 23 and 24) he is hoping that he is at the top of his game in those two crucial areas.
The NSW Pony Express Series is where two rides pair up and their results over the two day event are combined and the most consistent pairing wins and this weekend Pearce teams up with Adam Waldon.
Pearce and Shane Cox, who is unable to contest this weekend’s events, finished second in the Expert class during the opening two rounds of the NSW Pony Express Series in March on the Central Coast and this weekend Pearce has their sights set on going one better with Waldon.
“The best part about the NSW Pony Express Series is its unique format with the pairing of two riders together and the fact that you not only have to worry about your own riding but also your team mates and working together,” Pearce commented. “Consistency plays an important part in Enduro, as each lap of the layout you take is around 15 minutes and you have to do as many laps as possible over a four hour period. I feel that both Adam [Waldon] and I have what it takes to challenge at the front of our class and if we have consistent weekends then we are a shot at winning.”
Coming from a Motocross background, Pearce spent his later teenage years in Enduro when his family moved to Denman, but now resides in Singleton, and he has been involved in the sport ever since.
This weekend he feels that knowing the terrain around Denman might be of some advantage but it is certainly no guarantee for success.
“I know the area around Denman pretty well but with the circuit being different each and every time you compete there, it not necessarily going to be an advantage,” explained Pearce. “Since I first became involved in Enduro I was hooked and the best part I like about it is the fact that it is a battle of both physical and mental toughness and they are both constant challenges.”
Pearce, who rides a Kawasaki KX 450cc and is proudly sponsored by Pro Moto Suspension and PJ1 Oils, has enjoyed pretty good form so far this year and when he pairs up with Adam Waldon this weekend in rounds three and four of the NSW Pony Express Series he has his eyes set on breaking into the winner’s circle.
The latest rounds of the both the NSW Junior Cross Country and Senior Pony Express Series’ are to be held over two days and start at 9am on both days.
The Denman track is located at ‘Spur Hill’ which is 8kms East of Denman.
