Gaffa Scores NSW Twilight State Kart Title Double
Grant Gaffa left last Saturday’s (June 27) 2009 running of the NSW Twilight State Kart Title at Wollongong City Raceway (Kembla Grange on the South Coast of NSW) a very happy man after he took out duel wins in his respective classes.
Competing in both the TAG Red Light and Heavy combined and TAG Yellow classes; Gaffa proved too strong for his challengers and walked away with two impressive wins in the final. Gaffa’s results of two NSW Twilight State Titles wins in one single event made him the only driver that contested this year’s event to achieve such an impressive and very satisfying feat.
In the TAG Red Light and Heavy combined class; Gaffa won the final ahead of Joe Gauci and Mitchell Bennett, while in the TAG Yellow class final he managed to outpace Matthew Harris and Matt Ferraro.
Apart from the success of Gaffa, other impressive NSW Twilight State Titles wins were claimed by Drew Friend (Midget and Rookies), Jonathan Gauci (Junior National), Cameron Moss (Senior National), Jason Varley (Clubman Heavy), Ian Beeraz (Clubman Light) and Dean Starling (Open Performance). All of the above winners went through the NSW Twilight State Title by not only winning the final but all their qualifying heat races in their respective classes.
Other NSW Twilight State Title victories went to Jack Bennett (Junior Clubman) and Shane Tate (TAG Restricted / Super Heavy and Over 50s combined).
Despite not ending up in the victory lane, the efforts of the likes of Bryce Davidson, Andrew Worner, Daniel Coe and Victorian based Alicia Whelan. Davidson, who ran in the Junior Clubman class, started the final from pole position by virtue of winning two out of his three heat races but unfortunately failed to finish the final. Competing in the TAG Yellow class; Coe was the second highest qualifier heading into the final but in the final he was unlucky and finished well down the order in sixth place. Pole sitter for the TAG Restricted / Super Heavy and Over 50s combined final Worner, who had won all three heat races leading up to the final, was unable to continue his strong form during the final and finished off the podium in fourth place. After a disappointing opening heat race results; Whelan fought her way back in the Clubman Light class by finishing second in the second and third heat races and placing second in the final.
