Speedway Olive And Healey Share Gunnedah Speedway Top Honours

Veteran Wayne Olive and ‘Lady Leadfoot’ Sue Healey emerged victorious in their respective NSW Modified Sedan Series and NSW 4 Cylinder Sedan Series’ rounds last Saturday night (January 23) at Gunnedah Speedway (North Western NSW).

In the third round of the NSW Modified Sedan Series, Olive, driving his Mazda RX7, drove to the feature race victory honours. The Canberra (A.C.T.) based racer defeated Brent Croker and Brad Bassett in second and third place respectively on the podium. Olive’s victory came at the expense of current series Kevin Sherwood (Ford Falcon), who had the feature race win in the bag only to suffer a flat tyre and limp across the finish line in ninth place.

Despite the misfortune, Sherwood has been able to maintain his lead in the NSW Series point standings. Sherwood currently leads Wayne Olive and Bob Hamilton.

Gunnedah Speedway is proving to be quite a happy hunting ground for Sue Healey after the Honda Civic driver took out the feature race winning spoils in the second round of the NSW 4 Cylinder Sedan Series. Healey, who had won the Country Cup earlier this season at Gunnedah Speedway, proved too strong for her rivals during the feature race and finished ahead of Shane Morris and a hard charging Mandi Roy. Roy, who won the opening round, started towards the back of the feature race due to suffering some dramas during her heat races but the Ford Laser driver put in a gallant effort to claim the final spot on the podium.

After two completed rounds of the NSW 4 Cylinder Sedan Series Healey narrowly leads Roy and Morris in the overall point standings.

In the support class action; local Kevin Keeler took out the feature race winning honours ahead of Shane Anderson and Darren Cassidy, while Andrew Smith did likewise in the Junior Sedans over Jacob Roy and Jacob Keynes and in the Fender Benders Trevor Landrigan claimed the top honours by defeating Rodney Wiggins and Anthony Rees.

The next event on the 09/10 season Gunnedah Speedway calendar is set down for Saturday night, February 20 and it‘s going to feature Formula 500s, AMCA Nationals, Dwarf Cars, Street Stocks, 4 Cylinder Sedans, Junior Sedans and Fender Benders.
